Hugendubel MCP server: let your AI agent search books, eBooks and audiobooks

Wield is an MCP server that gives your AI agent one Hugendubel tool, hugendubel.de/search-books. The tool searches Hugendubel, the German bookseller, for a title, an author or an ISBN. It returns books, eBooks and audiobooks with the author, format, price in euros, availability, number of ratings and a link. The search runs in your own browser and needs no login. It returns the first page of results only.

The tool takes one required input, query. Use a title such as dune, an author such as sebastian fitzek or an ISBN such as 9783453317178. There are no other inputs. The recipe does not take a page number, because the shop renders no paging links on the server, so only the first page is read.

What a result contains

The result has query and books. Each book has a title, an author, a format, a price_eur, an availability, a ratings_count, an image and a url.

The format is the shop's own label, such as hardcover, paperback, eBook or audiobook. The price comes as a number in euros. The availability is the shop's text, such as "Sofort lieferbar". The number of ratings is returned, but the star value is not. The shop draws stars as icons, so the recipe has no text to read them from.

The recipe skips the shop's editorial banners and recommendation carousels. Those are not search results, so they do not appear in books.

How a request flows

  1. You ask your agent: "Find Sebastian Fitzek audiobooks on Hugendubel and show price and availability."
  2. The agent calls find_recipe, then run with hugendubel.de/search-books and query set to sebastian fitzek.
  3. wield-mcp passes the run through the local bridge to the Wield extension.
  4. The extension sends the request from a hugendubel.de tab in your browser, so the search reads the page the way a visitor does.
  5. The books go back to your agent. Nothing passes through wield.run.

In our check on 7 November 2026, a search for dune passed all 4 checks in one request. A search for sebastian fitzek returned 19 books, 17 of them by Fitzek. The banner and carousel entries were skipped. A nonsense query ran without errors. The recorded notes say the site answers server requests, and Wield still runs this recipe in your own browser, as it runs every recipe.

What leaves your computer

A search makes one request to www.hugendubel.de, for one search page, as the shop serves it to a visitor. The recipe never adds a book to a basket and never signs in. Wield logs the request on your computer only, with method, host, path, status and timing, and never logs bodies or query values. Telemetry is off by default. Wield never reads, copies or sends your cookies or passwords.

Hugendubel's terms, in plain words

Our notes say that the recipe makes one search page per call, the same page a visitor sees, with no basket and no account. The terms of use have not been reviewed for automated access yet, so we do not state what they allow. The site's robots.txt has no AI-agent rules. This recipe is user-initiated: you start each search yourself, in your own browser, with one search per call. It is not for bulk collection, and it never buys anything. Check Hugendubel's terms yourself before you use this recipe in any other way.

Limits and what is not working yet

  • Read only. The recipe finds books. Basket, checkout and account stay on hugendubel.de.
  • First page only. The recipe returns the first page of results. It cannot page through the rest.
  • No star values. Ratings come as a count, ratings_count. The average star value is not returned.
  • Mixed results. A broad query can return titles by many authors and formats. Narrow the query with a title and an author.
  • Run limits apply. A run has at most 12 steps, 40 requests, 5 MB per response and 60 seconds.

FAQ

Can the agent buy a book?

No. The recipe only searches. It never adds a book to a basket and never goes to checkout. Open the book's url to buy on Hugendubel.

Does it find eBooks and audiobooks too?

Yes. The format field shows the type, such as eBook or audiobook. Add the format to your query to narrow the results.

Does it need a Hugendubel login?

No. The search works without an account.

Which AI apps work with it?

Any MCP client. npx -y wield-mcp init sets up Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. Other MCP clients work with the standard stdio config.

Where do the results go?

To your agent, on your own computer. The results never pass through wield.run.
