Alternate MCP server: let your AI agent search PC hardware and electronics
Wield is an MCP server that gives your AI agent one Alternate tool, alternate.de/search-products. The tool searches Alternate, the German shop for PC hardware and electronics, for a product or spec such as ssd 2tb or rtx 5070. It returns product names, spec lines, prices in euros, stock status, ratings and links. The search runs in your own browser, needs no login, and returns one page of results per call.

What your agent gets
| Recipe | What it does | Login | Status (7 Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
alternate.de/search-products | Searches Alternate for hardware and electronics, with prices, stock and ratings | No | OK, 5 of 5 checks, 1 request, 0.6 s |
The tool takes a required query, for example ssd 2tb, ryzen 7 or monitor. The optional page input starts at 1. Each page holds 24 products.
What a result contains
Each product has a name, a spec line, price_eur, was_price_eur where the shop shows a crossed-out price, availability, in_stock, rating, ratings_count, an image and a url. Availability is the shop's own text, such as "Sofort verfügbar" or a delivery time. Prices come as numbers in euros, so your agent can sort or compare them without parsing the German decimal comma.
The result also carries query and page. It does not carry a total number of results. The shop's result count, such as "1-24 von 665 Ergebnisse", has no stable element on the page, so the recipe does not return it.
How a request flows
- You ask your agent: "Find 2 TB SSDs on Alternate and show price, was-price and stock."
- The agent calls
find_recipe, thenrunwithalternate.de/search-productsandqueryset tossd 2tb. wield-mcppasses the run through the local bridge to the Wield extension.- The extension sends the request from an alternate.de tab in your browser, so the search uses the page the way a visitor sees it.
- The products go back to your agent. Nothing passes through wield.run.
In our check on 7 November 2026, the search for ssd 2tb passed all 5 checks in one request. A search for rtx 5070 on page 2 returned 24 products, with crossed-out prices where the shop shows them. A nonsense query ran without errors and returned no products. The recorded notes say the shop has no sponsored boxes in its search results.
What leaves your computer
A search makes one request to www.alternate.de, for one results page, as the shop serves it to a visitor. The recipe never opens a basket and never signs in. Wield logs the request on your computer only, with method, host, path, status and timing, and never logs bodies or query values. Telemetry is off by default. Wield never reads, copies or sends your cookies or passwords.
Alternate's terms, in plain words
Our notes say that the recipe does one search page per call, the same page a visitor sees, with no basket and no account. The terms of use have not been reviewed for automated access yet, so we do not state what they allow. The site's robots.txt disallows /rest/ and *.json and has no rules for AI agents. This recipe is user-initiated: you start each search yourself, in your own browser, with one search per call. It is not for bulk collection, and it never buys anything. Check Alternate's terms yourself before you use this recipe in any other way.
Limits and what is not working yet
- Read only. The recipe finds products. Adding to a basket and checkout stay on alternate.de.
- One page per call. Use
pageto read further results, one call at a time. - No result count. The shop's total is not returned.
- Prices can be crossed out.
was_price_euris set only where the shop shows a crossed-out price. - Run limits apply. A run has at most 12 steps, 40 requests, 5 MB per response and 60 seconds.
FAQ
Can the agent buy a product?
No. The recipe only searches. It never adds items to a basket and never goes to checkout. Open the product's url to buy on Alternate.
Does it need an Alternate account?
No. The search works without an account or a login.
Does the result show stock?
Yes, as availability and in_stock. Stock can change after the search, so check the product page before you order.
Which AI apps work with it?
Any MCP client. npx -y wield-mcp init sets up Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. Other MCP clients work with the standard stdio config.
Where do the results go?
To your agent, on your own computer. The results never pass through wield.run.
