To let Claude search used cars on Auto Trader, install Wield and name the make, a UK postcode and your limits. For example: "Find Ford Fiesta cars within 20 miles of SW1A 1AA under 8,000 pounds, with a manual gearbox, and show price, mileage and year." Claude runs the autotrader.co.uk/search-cars recipe in your own browser. It returns listings with price in pounds, price rating, mileage, year, location, distance and seller type. No login is needed.

Ask your agent

Give the make and a UK postcode. Add a model, a distance and any limits you need. Claude calls find_recipe to find the recipe, then run with the parameters.

Claude then runs autotrader.co.uk/search-cars with make set to Ford, model set to Fiesta, postcode set to SW1A 1AA, distance_miles set to 20, max_price set to 8000 and transmission set to Manual.

A price filter without a postcode is refused by Auto Trader, so always give a postcode.

What comes back

The result has total, pages, page and cars. Each car shows its title, make_model, version, price_gbp, price_rating, mileage, year, location, distance_miles, seller_type, a highlight, a sponsored flag, an image and a url.

price_rating is Auto Trader's own price badge for the listing. seller_type shows whether the seller is a trader or a private seller. url opens the listing on autotrader.co.uk, where you can see the full advert and contact the seller.

What leaves your computer

The recipe makes one read-only GraphQL request to www.autotrader.co.uk, the same request the results page sends for one search. It goes out from your browser. Nothing passes through wield.run. Wield logs the request on your computer, with method, host, path and status, and never logs bodies or query values.

Limits and terms

  • robots.txt has no AI-agent rules, checked on 7 Nov 2026. It disallows search URLs with ?postcode= and ?sort= for crawlers, and this recipe does not request those URLs.
  • Auto Trader's terms have not been reviewed for automated access yet. Run one search at a time, from your own browser. Don't loop it.
  • The recipe never contacts a seller and never buys a car. Contacting sellers stays on autotrader.co.uk.
  • Auto Trader's radius is approximate, so a listing a mile beyond distance_miles can appear.
  • No status check is recorded for this recipe yet.

Can Claude contact the seller or buy the car?

No. The recipe only searches. Open the listing's url to see the advert and contact the seller on autotrader.co.uk.

Does it need a postcode?

Yes. A UK postcode is required for every search.

Are the prices in pounds?

Yes. price_gbp is in pounds, and min_price and max_price are also in pounds.

Does it need a login?

No. The search needs no account.
