Let Claude search SpareRoom rooms to rent in UK flatshares

To let Claude search SpareRoom rooms, install Wield and name a town or London area and a maximum rent. For example: "Find rooms to rent in London for up to 1,200 pounds a month, newest first, and show rent, area, availability and advertiser." Claude runs the spareroom.co.uk/search-rooms recipe in your own browser. It returns each room with rent, area, postcode district, availability and link. No login is needed.

Use it with your agent

What you need

  • Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or another MCP client.
  • A Chromium browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera) with the Wield extension.
  • wield-mcp. Run npx -y wield-mcp init, or use the one-click Claude Desktop bundle on wield.run/install.

For the full setup, follow the quick start.

Ask your agent

Give the location, the rent range and how you want the results sorted. Claude calls find_recipe to find the recipe, then run with the parameters.

You: Find rooms to rent in London for up to 1,200 pounds a month, newest first. Show rent, area, availability and advertiser.

Claude then runs spareroom.co.uk/search-rooms with location set to london, max_rent set to 1200 and sort set to newest, and reads the rent, area and advertiser from each room.

Params: what to put where

ParamRequiredWhat to put in it
locationyesTown or London area as SpareRoom names it, for example london, manchester, bristol or hackney.
min_rentnoMinimum rent in pounds per month.
max_rentnoMaximum rent in pounds per month.
sortnodefault, newest, price_low or price_high. Default default.
pagenoResults page. Default 1. Each page holds 10 rooms.

The price_low sort also surfaces placeholder adverts at £1 to £2, as the site does. The recipe keeps them.

What comes back

The result has location, page and rooms. Each room shows id, title, rent_gbp, period, area, postcode_district, property_type, rooms_in_property, available_now, days_old, advertiser, promoted, photo and url.

rent_gbp is the headline rent, and period says whether it is per calendar month (pcm) or per week (pw). days_old shows how long ago the advert was placed. url opens the advert's own page on SpareRoom, not a tracking link.

What leaves your computer

The recipe makes one request to www.spareroom.co.uk, for one search page. It goes out from your browser, so it carries your own browser session. Nothing passes through wield.run. Wield logs the request on your computer, with method, host, path, status and timing, and never logs bodies or query values.

Limits and terms

  • One search at a time. Run it when you need it. Don't loop it.
  • Read only. The recipe sends no messages to advertisers and uses no account.
  • Paid featured adverts are kept and marked. Look at the promoted field.
  • Run limits apply. A run has at most 12 steps, 40 requests, 5 MB per response and 60 seconds.
  • Status on 7 Nov 2026 is "ok". The London check passed 4 of 4 checks in 1 request, in 0.4 seconds.

SpareRoom's terms, in plain words

The recipe loads one search page per call, the same page a visitor sees. It sends no messages to advertisers and needs no account. SpareRoom's robots.txt has no rules for AI agents, as checked on 7 November 2026. We have not reviewed SpareRoom's terms for automated access yet, so read them yourself before you use this recipe in any other way. This is not legal advice. The search is user-initiated: you start it yourself, in your own browser, one search per call. It runs no bulk jobs and it makes no purchases.

FAQ

Can Claude message the advertiser?

No. The recipe only searches. Open the room's url on SpareRoom if you want to get in touch yourself.

Does it need a SpareRoom account?

No. The search works without an account.

Are paid adverts included?

Yes. Paid featured adverts are kept and marked with promoted set to true, so you can tell them apart.

Why does a result show a rent of £1 or £2?

The price_low sort surfaces placeholder adverts at £1 to £2, as the site does. Compare the rent with the other results before you act on one.
