Let Claude search OnTheMarket UK homes to rent or buy

To let Claude search OnTheMarket, install Wield and name a UK town, area or postcode district, plus whether you want to rent or buy. For example: "Find homes to rent in London for up to 2,000 pounds a month, with at least two bedrooms, cheapest first. Show price, bedrooms and agent." Claude runs the onthemarket.com/search-properties recipe in your own browser. It returns each listing with price, bedrooms, agent and link. No login is needed.

What you need

  • Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or another MCP client.
  • A Chromium browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera) with the Wield extension.
  • wield-mcp. Run npx -y wield-mcp init, or use the one-click Claude Desktop bundle on wield.run/install.

For the full setup, follow the quick start.

Ask your agent

Give the location, whether you want to rent or buy, and any filters. Claude calls find_recipe to find the recipe, then run with the parameters.

You: Find homes to rent in London for up to 2,000 pounds a month, with at least two bedrooms, cheapest first. Show price, bedrooms and agent.

Claude then runs onthemarket.com/search-properties with location set to london, channel set to rent, max_price set to 2000, min_bedrooms set to 2 and sort set to price_low, and reads the price, bedrooms and agent from each property.

What comes back

The result has location, channel, total, page and properties. Each property shows id, title, address, price_gbp, price_text, price_qualifier, bedrooms, bathrooms, property_type, added, agent, latitude, longitude, promoted and url.

For rentals, price_gbp is the monthly rent, the first figure in the price text. price_text keeps the full price as the site shows it, for example £1,700 pcm (£392 pw). url opens the listing on OnTheMarket.

What leaves your computer

The recipe makes one request to www.onthemarket.com, for one list page, the same page a visitor sees. It goes out from your browser, so it carries your own browser session. Nothing passes through wield.run. Wield logs the request on your computer, with method, host, path, status and timing, and never logs bodies or query values.

Limits and terms

  • One search at a time. Run it when you need it. Don't loop it.
  • Read only. The recipe makes no enquiries to agents. Open the listing's url to do that yourself.
  • Spotlight listings are dropped by default. Set include_spotlight to keep them, marked promoted.
  • Run limits apply. A run has at most 12 steps, 40 requests, 5 MB per response and 60 seconds.
  • Status on 7 Nov 2026 is "ok". The London rent check passed 6 of 6 checks in 1 request.

OnTheMarket's terms, in plain words

The recipe loads one list page per call, the same page a visitor sees, and sends no enquiries to agents. OnTheMarket's robots.txt gives ClaudeBot a crawl delay only, as checked on 7 November 2026. We have not reviewed OnTheMarket's terms for automated access yet, so read them yourself before you use this recipe in any other way. This is not legal advice. The search is user-initiated: you start it yourself, in your own browser, one search per call. It runs no bulk jobs and it makes no purchases.

FAQ

Can Claude contact the estate agent?

No. The recipe only searches. Open the listing's url on OnTheMarket to get in touch with the agent yourself.

Does the result include paid listings?

Not by default. Spotlight listings are paid placements and are dropped. Set include_spotlight to true to keep them, and they come back marked promoted.

Does it need an OnTheMarket login?

No. The search works without an account.

Is the rent per month?

For rentals, yes. max_price and min_price are per month when you rent, and price_gbp is the monthly figure from the start of the price text.
