Trenitalia MCP server: let your AI agent search Italian train trips
Wield is an MCP server that gives your AI agent one Trenitalia tool, lefrecce.it/search-trains. It searches trains between two Italian stations from a departure time, using Trenitalia's own booking site, lefrecce.it. Results include times, changes, train names, the lowest available price in euros and whether a train can still be bought. No login is needed.

The recipe is read only. It searches and does not book. It does not add anything to a cart.
How the tool works
The tool takes a departure and an arrival station, an earliest departure time in Italian local time, and optional filters. It looks up each station name once, then runs one search. A status check on 7 November 2026 for Roma to Milano used three requests and finished in about 2.9 seconds.

The result has from, to, a trains list and a book_at field. Each train shows its departure and arrival, duration, origin and destination, number of changes, the train names and numbers, and the train types. It also shows price_eur, price_indicative and for_sale. Check for_sale before you rely on a price, because it shows whether the train can still be bought.
An unknown station name fails at the lookup step, before any search runs.

What leaves your computer
The recipe calls one host, www.lefrecce.it. Wield logs each request on your computer, with method, host, path, status and timing. It never logs bodies or query values. Telemetry is off by default. Wield never reads, copies or sends your cookies or passwords.
Trenitalia's terms, in plain words
We have not reviewed lefrecce.it's terms yet, so please read them yourself. The site's robots.txt only bans a few named crawlers. Each run looks up each station once and searches once, using the same requests the booking form makes. The recipe does not book and does not add to a cart. This is not legal advice. Check the site's terms before you automate anything else.
Limits
- Read only. The tool never books. Buying happens on lefrecce.it.
- Italian station names. Write the station as the site knows it, or use a city name.
- Prices can change. The lowest available price is what the search returns at that moment. Check
for_salebefore you rely on it. - Run limits apply. A run has at most 12 steps, 40 requests, 5 MB per response and 60 seconds.
FAQ
Can my agent buy a ticket?
No. The tool does not book or add to a cart. Buy on lefrecce.it.
Can it show only regional trains?
Yes. Set regional_only to true. Set frecce_only for high-speed trains only.
Do I need a Trenitalia login?
No. The search needs no account.
Which AI apps work with it?
Any MCP client. npx -y wield-mcp init sets up Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. Other MCP clients work with the standard stdio config. Claude Desktop also has a one-click bundle on wield.run/install.
