Let Claude search ÖBB train and bus connections in Austria

To let Claude search ÖBB connections, install Wield and name two stations and a date. For example: "Find ÖBB connections from Wien Hbf to Graz Hbf on 20 November 2026, from 09:00." Claude runs the oebb.at/search-connections recipe in your own browser. It returns connections with departure and arrival times, changes, platforms and cancelled trips. No login is needed, and the result has no ticket prices.

What you need

  • Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or another MCP client.
  • A Chromium browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera) with the Wield extension.
  • wield-mcp. Run npx -y wield-mcp init, or use the one-click Claude Desktop bundle on wield.run/install.

For the full setup, follow the quick start.

Ask your agent

Give the departure station, the arrival station and the travel date. Add a time if it matters. Claude calls find_recipe to find the recipe, then run with the parameters.

You: Find ÖBB connections from Wien Hbf to Graz Hbf on 20 November 2026, from 09:00, and show changes and platforms.

Claude then runs oebb.at/search-connections with from, to, date and time, and reads the times, changes and platforms from each connection.

Params: what to put where

ParamRequiredWhat to put in it
fromyesDeparture station or place, for example Wien Hbf.
toyesArrival station or place, for example Graz Hbf.
dateyesTravel date as YYYY-MM-DD.
timenoTime as HH:MM, Austrian local time. Default 08:00.
arrive_bynotrue treats time as the latest arrival instead of the earliest departure. Default false.
resultsnoNumber of connections to return. Default 5.

Station names are free text. Wield uses the first match of ÖBB's station search and returns the station it used, in the from and to fields.

What comes back

The result has from, to, connections and message. Each connection shows the departure date and time, the arrival time and arrival_day_offset, duration_min, changes, the departure and arrival platforms, and cancelled. The legs field lists each train or bus line and its direction. Where ÖBB knows them, departure_realtime and arrival_realtime show live times. If there are no connections, message holds the planner's own reason.

What leaves your computer

The recipe makes 2 requests to fahrplan.oebb.at. They go out from your browser. Nothing passes through wield.run. Wield logs each request on your computer, without bodies or query values.

Limits and terms

  • ÖBB's terms have not been reviewed for automated access yet. The recipe runs one search that you start, with two read-only requests. Do not loop it to watch timetables.
  • Booking and payment stay in the ÖBB shop. The recipe never books and shows no prices.
  • Station names are matched, not confirmed. Check the from and to values in the result.
  • A date outside the timetable period returns no connections, with the planner's message.

Status

On 7 Nov 2026 the recipe passed 7 of 7 checks in 2 requests, in 2.6 s. The check was a search from Wien Hbf to Salzburg Hbf on 14 January at 08:00. We have not benchmarked this recipe yet.
